free your mind, heal your body

Floating is about recharging, detoxifying and relaxing

Take time to recharge and let the world melt away. Floatation therapy suspends you in a calming and detoxifying salt-water pod, an environment designed to reduce sensory stimuli and create pure weightlessness—both mentally and physically.

Are you ready to unlock your potential and thrive in all you do?
Come float with us.

Research shows that after 45 mins of floating, the mind starts to produce theta brainwaves, indicative of a deeply meditative state. The proven benefits of meditation are almost endless. Bringing tranquility to your mind enhances your ability to be creative, mindful and happy.

The high levels of magnesium in the salt-water induce lactic acid breakdown in muscles, helping you release tension. Floating helps to lower blood pressure, improve sleep, reduce stress, anxiety and depression. As your body stops fighting gravity, you begin to rest and recover, largely through the secretion of dopamine and endorphins.

The benefits are endless. Your skin is radiant, your body is relaxed, your mind is clearer. You will see this reflected through your higher levels of creativity and happiness. Make sure you eat well and live mindfully to enhance the benefits of floating.

A guide to floatation

Our float pods are filled with shallow water containing 500 kilograms of Epsom salts. This creates an effect akin to the Dead Sea, making your body naturally float to the surface. It is like taking a dip in a very calm sea, letting you escape the buzz of the city, nourishing your body.

Come and enter our capsules of tranquility where you can relax, meditate and even do a few yoga stretches to release tension.

Close Menu

In light of the current global climate, after much consideration and following government recommendations we have decided to close down until further notice. Through this time we wish everyone good health, peace & calm.

We understand that many of you will be concerned for your health, and that of your friends and family.

We would like to reassure you that at HFC we are taking the COVID-19 situation very seriously. Prior to closure, we had precautions in place to ensure that our hygiene and cleaning protocols address any risk of transmission as it relates to floating. Once we re-open, we would like to ask you to please not book an appointment if you are feeling unwell or have travelled to a high-risk area. Any staff or clients with symptoms will be denied entry to HFC.

We are following guidance from Public Health England (PHE), who have advised that coronavirus is “inactivated at the levels of chlorine used in swimming pools” and that it is “generally safe to go swimming at this time”. The Centers for Disease Control and Preevention (CDC) have released a statement saying that: “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”

As floating is an individual practice there is limited person-to-person exposure, which together with surface contact is the main mode of transmission. To address the person-to-person risk, we are ensuring that all present staff are healthy and maintain safe physical distance from clients. To address the risk of surface contact, all rooms are thoroughly sterilised between each client. After every float, we clean all surfaces in the room, in particular contact points on the float tank (such as handles and buttons) using a disinfectant that contains bactericidal, virucidal, and fungicidal agents and has been proven to kill viruses including H1N1, Swine Flu and HIV. We use fresh cloths for every room clean and replace all towels and floor mats. In effect, there is very low risk of surface transmission as all surfaces are disinfected or replaced. During this time, we are taking extra care with these protocols and will also be disinfecting all surfaces in our reception area on a regular basis.

Although COVID-19 is a novel virus, which requires us to be additionally vigilant, our water disinfectant protocols are already designed to ensure that viruses, bacteria and other pathogens cannot survive in the water after each float. This includes maintaining hydrogen peroxide levels (tested twice-daily), UV light sterilization, ozone & physical microfiltration, which together with the high concentration of Epsom salts (500kg per tank), make the spread of pathogens much less likely than regular pools and hot tubs.

We require all clients to shower thoroughly before entering the water and after their float. This is in line with PHE’s guidance that “… visitors to swimming pools are reminded to shower before using the pool, to shower on leaving the pool and to follow the necessary hygiene precautions when visiting public places to help reduce the risk of infection.”

It is also important to mention that the relaxation, detoxifying and immune-boosting effects of floating are exactly what is needed in the current climate but due to the uncertainty of the situation it has become wiser to close down for the moment being. This is a time to focus on self-care and, in a safe way, to help bodies and minds to feel calm and supported. Please be safe and decide what is right for you to help maintain your health.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update our protocols and this notice as things unfold.

If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to us. We are here to support you.

Healthy regards,

The Hackney Float Crew
